At the bottom is accumulated windblown loess, then a peaty layer, probably formed by sedges and vegetation around marshes or a coastal lagoon. Above that is an increasing amount of gravel, probably deposited by flooding or course changes in the braided rivers common in this area. The whole is topped with a thin, light topsoil
