Typha - Bulrush, Bullrush, Reedmace, Cat-tail
Stock photos of Bulrushes (plants of the genus Typha), a group of around 10 species of long-stemmed perennials that form large clumps of tall grassy leaves around pond margins and out into water up to around 30cm deep. They occur over much of the world and the cut foliage and flower stems have many local uses, such as weaving or thatching. The flowerheads are very distinctive and are composed of thousands of tiny flowers so densely packed that they form a velvety cylindrical structure at the top of the flower stems, which is usually slightly taller than the foliage. When dried the similar seedhead breaks up and the seeds are distributed on the breeze.
