Ginkgo - Maidenhair Tree
A page of stock pictures of the maidenhair tree (Ginkgo biloba), an ancient deciduous tree that is native to China. While there is only one species it has been developed into several garden cultivars that vary in plant and leaf shape and foliage colour. The leaves resemble the foliage of the maidenhair fern in shape and are a similar light dull green shade. In autumn they turn brilliant yellow. There are separate male and female trees and the females bear soft fruits that have a rather unpleasant smell when squashed. The fruit matures in late autumn or early winter as the last of the foliage falls.
