Araucaria
A page of stock pictures of Araucaria trees. The 19 species of this ancient genus of evergreen conifers occur naturally South America, Australia, Norfolk Island, New Guinea and New Caledonia. Most are large trees with massive, straight trunks that continue to the apex of the tree, sharply distinct from the crowded, shorter, lateral branches. The leathery leaves, sometimes spine-tipped, are incurved and densely overlapping in some species, flatter and spreading in others. Male and female cones occur on the same tree, the round, bristly seed cones developing near the top of the tree.
