Allocasuarina and Casuarina - Sheoak
Stock photos of sheoaks (plants of the genera Allocasuarina and Casuarina), a group of evergreen Australian and Pacific Island trees of which there are some 70 species. The Australian species are generally classified under Allocasuarina while the other species are in Casuarina, though this is not yet a universally accepted division. Sheoaks do not have recognisable leaves but instead rely on modified green stems (cladodes) that are capable of photosynthesis. The true leaves are small scales that encircle the rush-like joints of the cladodes. Sprays of filamentous flowers develop at the stem tips and are followed, by hard, woody fruiting "cones".
