Samson Tractors
Stock photos of Samson tractors. Samson made machines under its own name for only a few years: around 1916-22. This manufacturer started in Stockton, California as the Samson Iron Works in 1900 and became the Samson Tractor Company in 1916. The name was changed again in early 1917 to the Samson Sieve Grip Tractor Company in recognition of their very distinctive "Sieve Grip" models. The company was purchased by General Motors in March 1917 and operations were moved to the site of the Janesville Machine Company (another GM acquisition) in Wisconsin. Samson also produced trucks, but neither the tractors nor the trucks enjoyed much popularity and after finally losing 33 million dollars on the venture GM liquidated the Samson division in 1923 and turned the production lines over to the manufacture of Chevrolet vehicles.
