Ransomes Tractors
Stock photos of Ransomes tractors. While better known for their large lawn mowers, the English company of Ransomes also made a range of small tracked tractors intended for light work such as market gardens and hauling on building sites. The company can trace its history back to 1789 and its entry into the tractor market in the early 1900s was made by converting car chassis into lightweight tractors, though at the same time the now Ransomes, Sims, and Jefferies company was also making steam traction engines. The first of its crawler range was the MG2 of 1936 and updated models continued to be produced until 1966. Ransomes eventually became part of the Jacobsen company and the Ransomes Jacobsen name still appears on machinery made by Textron in Ipswich, England where Robert Ransome had his original ironworks in 1789.
