John Deere Tractors
A page of stock pictures of John Deere tractors. John Deere revolutionised farming on the plains of America's Midwest when in 1837 he developed a self-cleaning plough made of highly polished steel. The rough ploughs then in use quickly became clogged in heavy soil and had to be cleaned after just a few yards. His company prospered and expanded and in 1918 in order to move into tractor production it acquired the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company. The first true John Deere tractor, the Model D, appeared in 1924 and continued to be made in one form or another until 1953, by which time over 160,000 had been produced. John Deere became the pre-eminent American tractor manufacturer in the late 1950s and remains one of only two tractor companies not to have been merged since World War Two, the other being Caterpillar.
