Irishman Harry Ferguson began making tractors in large numbers after coming to an arrangement with Henry Ford who was interested in the three-point linkage system that Ferguson had developed for David Brown. The original Ferguson Brown tractors were developed in the 1930s but it was the "Fergies" of the 1940s and 50s that earned the company its fame. The Canadian Massey Harris company bought Ferguson in 1953 but continued to make both the Massey Harris and Ferguson lines until 1957 when the brands and model range became fully merged as Massey Ferguson.
