Fowler Traction Engines
A page of photographs of Fowler traction engines or steam tractors. Fowler was a British company based in Leeds and was well-known for its owl trademark. John Fowler established his company in 1855, producing ploughs that he powered with Ransomes engines. His first steam engines appeared around 1862. John Fowler was killed in an 1864 hunting accident but his brother Robert continued the business. Fowler produced many engines, including steam ploughs, road locomotives, traction engines, rollers and cranes. The oldest survivng Fowler is No. 1368, a ploughing engine from 1870.
