Dodonaea - Hopbush, Hopseed
Stock photos of Hopbushes or Hopseeds (plants of the genus Dodonaea), which is made up of some 80 species of evergreen shrubs and small trees. Many are tropical or subtropical that are rarely seen in cultivation. However, the ake ake or hopseed bush (Dodonaea viscosa) is extensively planted. This 4m high × 3m wide evergreen shrub is found in several Pacific countries including Australia and New Zealand. It has 100mm-long, thin, almost parchment textured leaves and develops into a densely foliaged bush. The true flowers, which are most common in summer, are tiny but the surrounding bracts are quite showy. Two forms are grown; the species, which has bright green leaves and light green flower bracts, and 'Purpurea', which has deep reddish purple leaves and pink to red flower bracts.
