Cotinus - Smoke Bush
Stock photos of smoke bushes (plants of the genus Cotinus). Cotinus coggygria is the better known of the two deciduous species in this Northern Hemisphere genus. It is grown both for its massed clusters of minute greyish flowers, which appear as a smoky haze in spring, and for its foliage, particularly the intense yellow to orange-red and purple autumn colour. Several purple leaf forms, such as 'Royal Purple' extend the foliage appeal throughout the growing season. The other species, Cotinus obovatus, has more intense autumn colour than C. coggygria, but is not as widely grown because it does not have the range of summer-coloured foliage forms. Both species are large deciduous shrubs or small trees that may reach 5m tall × 4m wide, though they will withstand cutting back if necessary.
