Cistus - Rock Rose
Stock photos of Rock Roses (plants of the genus Cistus). One of the classic genera for hot dry conditions, most of the 20-odd Cistus species are native to the Mediterranean area and the Iberian Peninsula. They have flowers, primarily in spring and early summer, that look like single roses. The colour is usually white or pink, often with contrasting blotches. The narrow to rounded foliage is usually a light green or greyish green and sticky. The plants have an aromatic, sticky, resinous sap and can be very combustible in hot dry weather. Many species and hybrids are grown. They range in size from ground covers, such as Cistus salvifolius, to large (1.8m × 1.2m) shrubs, such as Cistus ladiniferus and Cistus laurifolius.
