Cestrum
The night scented jasmine (Cestrum nocturnum) is the best known member of this genus. It is a soft-stemmed evergreen shrub with narrow, deep green leaves and clusters of small tubular cream flowers in late spring and summer. While not especially attractive, the flowers are very sweetly scented at night and are occasionally followed by white berries. Regrettably, it is very frost tender. Other species, such as Cestrum aurantiaca and Cestrum elegans have more spectacular (though unscented) flowers and fruit but are also frost tender. One hybrid, Cestrum 'Newellii', is considerably hardier and has bright red unscented flowers.
