Traction Engine Rally: 2006
The 2006 Traction Engine Rally held at the Rangiora Showgrounds from March 24th to 26th was reputedly the largest assembly of traction engines and other steam-related equipment ever seen in New Zealand, the rally featured a 1922 Burrell showman's engine powering an 1898 carousel, both items coming from England for the event.
While everything went off as expected and the event certainly had a great atmosphere — one filled with coal smoke — the weather was not particularly cooperative. The organisers were doubtless hoping for some brilliantly bright autumn days, but instead the conditions were overcast on all three days, but the enthusiasm of the exhibitors made up for the weather.
