The Glaciers
A page of stock pictures of the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, south Westland, New Zealand. The Franz Josef Glacier is around 10 kilometres long and over that distance it falls from over 2000m altitude to 200m at the coastal end. This is a very steep fall and it is widely regarded as one of the world's most spectacular glaciers. Because it is readily accessible from the road it is an important tourist stop. Fox Glacier is a little further south than Franz Josef and at 13 kilometres it is a little longer too. However, it is not as steep on the decline to the terminal face and so is perhaps somewhat less spectacular though still awe-inspiring.
