Lake Tennyson
Lake Tennyson in the far northwest of Canterbury, New Zealand lies between Hanmer Springs and St. Arnaud. From Christchurch it is reached by taking the Rainbow Road off the Molesworth Road after travelling through Jack's Pass from Hanmer. The road follows the Clarence River along the eastern side of the James Range. Beside the lake is the scree-topped Mount Southey, over 1900m high, home to a wide range of alpine and not too difficult to climb if one is reasonably fit. The lake is at an altitude of around 1100m, which makes the mountain top a climb of a further 800m.
