Katiki Point
Katiki Point is a promontory near Moeraki on the Otago coast, New Zealand. Like Moeraki, Katiki is home to intriguing near spherical boulders made of mudstone around a silica/calcite core. The Katiki Point boulders are 65-90 million years old and they remain more or less intact until the soft soil or rock surrounding them erodes, after which they break down relatively quickly, especially if exposed to the tides. The Katiki Point boulders are generally smaller than those at Moeraki, some being little larger than soccer balls. The Moeraki lighthouse is located at Katiki Point.
