Central Otago Rail Trail
The Central Otago Rail Trail is a cycling and walking track that follows the line of an old railway. The track is now a public reserve and the trail was developed by a local trust and the Department of Conservation. Running from Middlemarch to Clyde, the trail covers 150 kilometres and passes over some 68 bridges. After six years of development, which involved removing the rail tracks and sleepers, the trail was opened in February 2000.
