This is the opening page to our selection of rose stock pictures, depicting mainly the flowers, but also covering growth forms, fruit (hips, heps or haws) and the foliage. The genus Rosa is made up over 100 species that occur over much of the Northern Hemisphere. From these the many thousands of garden hybrid roses have been developed. The garden roses are divided into groups based on their parentage and the characteristics of their flowers and growth habit. They are also divided into Old Rose and Modern Roses. Modern Roses are considered to be those types developed after the appearance in 1867 of the first Hybrid Tea rose, 'La France'. The photos of the various rose groups have their own image pages as shown below. Rose groups of which we have only a few images, as well as general rose scenes are listed in the Other Roses/General Scenes category.
