Portulaca
A page of stock photos of plants of the genus Portulaca. Widely distributed in the tropics and subtropics, this genus is made up of around 40 species of fleshy-stemmed annuals and perennials with flowers that open only when the sun is shining.
The fancy-flowered garden forms are mainly derived from Portulaca grandiflora, a native of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Another species, Purslane (Portulaca oleracea), has a very widespread distribution and while often considered a weed it is sometimes used as a culinary herb or leaf vegetable.
