Physalis - Chinese Lantern, Cape Gooseberry
Stock photos of Chinese Lantern or Cape Gooseberry (plants of the genus Physalis), a group of around 80 species of annuals and perennials with a widespread natural distribution, but mainly native to the Americas. They usually have an erect habit with soft, sometimes downy, lobed leaves. The flowers, usually white or pale yellow, are simple and are borne singly in the leaf axils. They quickly develop into bladder-like structures that enclose a berry, the bladder drying as the berry ripens. The berries are generally edible and while many of the cultivated species are grown as ornamentals, others, such as the Cape Gooseberry (Physalis peruviana) and Tomatillo (Physalis isocarpa), are grown as small-scale crops
