Ranunculus - Buttercup
Ranunculus or Buttercup is a genus of some 400 species, mostly annuals and perennials, widely distributed throughout the temperate regions worldwide. They are grown for their colourful flowers, which are bowl- or cup-shaped, 5-petalled and yellow, white, red, orange or pink. The name derives from the Latin for ‘frog’, due to the tendency of some species to grow in bogs or shallow water. Many species are vigorous colonisers that can become invasive.
