Cynara - Artichoke, Cardoon
Stock photos of plants of the genus Cynara, which is made up of 10 species of perennials of the daisy family (Asteraceae). They resemble giant thistles with large, deeply divided and lobed silver-grey to green leaves and heads of blue, purple or white florets with inconspicuous or absent ray florets. The best known species are the Globe Artichoke, the flower buds of which are used as a vegetable, and the Cardoon, which was a popular vegetable until the early 20th century — its young stems were forced and blanched. These large plants need plenty of room, both to grow well and to be seen without the obstruction of other plants around them.
