Corydalis
While many of the 300-odd species of annuals and perennials in this poppy family genus have long been cultivated, Corydalis boomed in popularity in the late 1980s when the blue-flowered Corydalis flexuosa and its cultivars became widely available. Mainly confined to the northern temperate zones, the perennial species spread by rhizomes or tubers to form clumps of ferny, often blue-green foliage. Their flowers are borne in racemes and are tubular, with 4 tiny petals and a long spur. Although small, the flowers are usually very showy and combine well with the delicate foliage.
