Aubrieta - Aubretia
Stock photos of plants of the genus Aubrieta, a group of around a dozen species of cushion or mat-forming evergreen perennials found from Europe to Central Asia. The genus is named after Claude Aubriet (1668-1743), an artist on an early French scientific expedition, and is correctly known as Aubrieta, but because this name is very close in form to the common 'tia' ending of many plant names it has become corrupted to Aubretia, which is now recognised as the common name. These small, hardy, undemanding plants make a great show from early spring when they become smothered in tiny four-petalled flower in various shades or purple and pink or white.
