Aciphylla - Speargrass
Stock photos of Speargrasses or Spaniards (plants of the genus Aciphylla) . Containing around 40 species, most of which occur in New Zealand, with a few from Australia, speargrasses are perennials with large pinnate leaves tipped with vicious spines. They also have large, often spiny, flower spikes. They occur mainly in subalpine and alpine areas. The alternative name Spaniard may come from Spanish Bayonet, a term for Yucca, or as a corruption of spikenard.
