Castle Hill

Castle Hill is renowned for its magnificent limestone monoliths, which are set in a landscape known as karst topography. The most visible and readily accessible of three similar sites - Castle Hill, Cave Stream and Flock Hill - this area is popular with rock climbers as well as tourists coming to view the rocks. It is also an area of considerable botanical interest and home to several rare plants, such as the Castle Hill forget-me-not (Myosotis colensoi and Castle Hill buttercup (Ranunculus crithmifolius ssp. paucifolius). The nearby Castle Hill village is a base for winter activities.
