Lagunaria - Norfolk Island Hibiscus
Stock photos of Norfolk Island Hibiscus or Cow Itch Tree (Lagunaria patersonia [syn L. patersonii), the sole species in its genus. It is an evergreen large shrub or small tree found on Norfolk Island, Lord Howe Island and coastal southern Queensland, Australia. A member of the mallow family, it has dark green elliptical leaves with pale, downy undersides. The flowers are hibiscus like, though smaller than most hibiscus, and range in colour from almost white to deep pink. Hard seed pods follow that in addition to holding the seeds also contain fine hairs that can be very irritating to the skin, hence the name Cow Itch Tree.
