Cyathea
The tree ferns of the genus Cyathea can be found throughout the tropics and the subtropics and also extend into the temperate zones, especially in Australia and New Zealand. They are often large, imposing plants with heavy fibrous trunks and a broad head of fronds that is some species are up to 6m long. The best known species is probably the New Zealand Silver Fern (Cyathea dealbata), the mature fronds of which have silvery white undersides, making it an attractive garden specimen. It is also one of New Zealand's most widely recognised national symbols.
