Cyperus - Umbrella Reed
Stock photos of Umbrella Reed or Papyrus (plants of the genus Cyperus), a group of some 600 species of annuals and perennials that include several ornamental or useful species and also a number of highly invasive weeds. They usually prefer to grow in damp area and form a basal clump of grassy foliage, from which emerges erect stems topped with grassy heads that enclose the flowers, which soon develop into brown seedheads. The best known species are the Umbrella Plant (Cyperus alternifolius), which has stems to around 90cm tall and occurs in several garden forms, and Papyrus (Cyperus papyrus), which has stems that can grow to over 3m tall, which were the source of the material for making papyrus and the origin of our word paper.
