Quince - Cydonia
Stock photos of quinces (plants of the genus Cydonia), the sole species of which is a deciduous large shrub or small tree. Unlike the so-called flowering quinces of the genus Chaenomeles, Cydonia is thornless and blooms in spring, not late winter. Its white to pale pink flowers are followed by yellow-green pear-like fruits that are very downy when young, as are the undersides of the leaves. The fruit is too tart to be eaten raw but it is very fragrant and has a high pectin content, making it ideal for jams, jellies and even as a fragrance in cosmetics. The fruit is usually not ripe until winter, after the leaves have fallen. It is usually harvested after leaf drop and allowed to ripen under cover.
