This is the opening page for our selection of camellia pictures. Camellia is an Asian genus found mainly in the warm temperate areas. It includes some 300 species as well as countless garden hybrids and cultivars. The garden plants are classified according to their parent species and the most common types are the cultivars of Camellia japonica, Camellia reticulata, Camellia sasanqua and Camellia hiemalis, and the hybrids between those and other species. Camellias often have lush foliage and the most extensively cultivated camellia, Camellia sinensis, is not grown for its flowers but for its leaves, though not for their beauty — they are the source of commercially grown tea.
