The sole species in this genus is Gloriosa superba, a tuberous perennial found in tropical Africa and Asia. It scrambles and climbs using tendril-tipped leaves and occurs in a range of garden cultivars. In temperate gardens it is summer- and autumn-flowering and requires a warm, sheltered spot or a greenhouse.
