Teviot Woolshed
A page of stock pictures of the Teviot woolshed. The woolshed at Teviot, Otago, New Zealand is now a ruin but in its time it was one of the largest buildings of its type in the world. It was built in 1870 and destroyed by fire in 1924. The stone building is 137m long and over 45m wide, with a size and style of construction that makes its remains resemble a castle more than a woolshed. It could hold up to 11,000 sheep, all on the ground floor, unlike some of the larger capacity Australian sheds, which are two storey buildings. The building may have originally been a temporary railway station in Britain, which was dismantled and shipped to New Zealand. That would account for its design and the wooden cladding that originally covered the building.
