Turkeys
Stock photos of turkeys (birds of the genus Meleagris). Turkeys are native to North America and the better known of the two species is the Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo), which has been developed into a range of breeds and is now extensively farmed. The male birds are much larger than the female and while the male wild turkey can attain a weight of 11kg, domesticated birds may be twice this weight, though few are allowed to reach such sizes. Female birds are usually sold as whole carcasses while males are cut into pieces or further processed. The much rarer and smaller Ocellated Turkey (Meleagris ocellata) is found on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and also in pats of Guatemala and Belize.
