Tuberhybrida Begonia Cultivars
The hybrid tuberous begonias are derived from a range of mainly Andean species, including Begonia boliviensis, Begonia clarkei, Begonia davisii, Begonia pearcei and Begonia veitchii. They have large fleshy tubers, lush foliage that is sometimes mottled or otherwise patterned, and large showy flowers that are often double and frequently frilled and multi-coloured.
Flowering usually starts around midsummer. In mild climates tuberous begonias are grown outdoors but, as the flowers are prone to wind, sun and rain damage, they often look their best when given some protection from the elements.
