Schizanthus
This genus is made up of around 12 species of annuals and biennials native to Chile. The plants most often seen in cultivation are the hybrids grouped under the name Schizanthus x wisetonensis and commonly known as Poor Man's Orchid or Butterfly Flower. These are hybrids of Schizanthus grahamii and Schizanthus pinnatus, both of which are annuals and which may occasionally be seen in gardens.
The photos here were largely taken indoors and depict potted plants, which is how Schizanthus are often grown. They are soft stemmed and prone to weather damage but make excellent plants for instant colour in conservatories or greenhouses.
