Picture: The foliage of Chile Nut or Chilean Hazelnut (Gevuina avellana), an evergreen Chilean shrub or tree that can grow to 12m tall. It has attractive leathery green foliage that is coated with a red-brown indumentum when young. A member of the protea family and allied to Macadamia, it produces summer-borne racemes of cream flower that develop into red fruits that ripen to black and which contain edible nuts.
