Stock Photo: Italica Image ID CFG7234

Picture: Italica at the Port of Lyttelton, New Zealand. The Italica is a 113m long ship with a low-loading deck to enable easy loading at wharf level. Even though this may make it a rather vulnerable ship in rough seas, the Naples-registered Italica is used for Italian oceanographic work in the Antarctic. The Italica was built in Romania in 1981 for a Russian order but has served with the Italian Antarctic programme since the southern summer of 1990-91.
