Picture: Primula auricula, a spring-flowering perennial native to the European Alps, Carpathians and Apennines. Cultivated auriculas have flowers that are considerably larger than those of the species and they occur in a wide range of colours and patterns. The auricula attained its greatest popularity in 19th century England.
