Picture: A large self-propelled irrigator moves across a field of cauliflowers in the heat haze late summer. Such irrigators create a curtain of water that is less easily blown away and more evenly delivered than the spray from a jet irrigator. However, they are often far more mechanically complex. This model has a fixed width, rigidly braced boom on a central motorised unit, others have a modular construction with a shorter boom that can be joined to other units to cover a very large area.
