Picture: Whitebaiting is a popular New Zealand pastime that involves using wire-framed nets of fine mesh to catch the young fry of several species of fish as they head out to sea after hatching along the banks of coastal rivers. Baiters will frequently move further up or down the river in order to locate better runs of bait.
