Stock Photo: Bridge of Remembrance Image ID CFGf086

Picture: Opened in 1924, the Bridge of Remembrance over the Avon River on Cashel Street, Christchurch, New Zealand and its triumphal arch were built to commemorate the fallen of World War One. It was built on this site because it was beside the King Edward Barracks, which housed the troops who then crossed on an earlier bridge as they left for the war. The Arch has since been modified to serve as a memorial to all of Canterbury's war dead.
