Stock Photo: Merino Ram Image ID CFGe551

Picture: Right profile view of the head of a polled Merino ram, with the nose showing the wrinkling that is common on the skin of New Zealand and Australian Merinos. In some countries, such as South Africa, this feature has been bred out. The Merino is an old sheep breed possibly dating back as far as the 12th century. It is popular for its fine-grained meat and particularly fine wool and is renowned for its ability to survive temperature extremes, such as the severe cold of the high country of New Zealand's South Island, where it overwinters outdoors.
