Stock Photo: Merino Ram Image ID CFGe549

Picture: Left profile view of the head of a Merino ram with a full set of horns. Often the tips of the horns are removed to make handling safer and to prevent the animals damaging each other. The Merino is an old sheep breed possibly dating back as far as the 12th century. It is popular for its fine-grained meat and particularly fine wool and is renowned for its ability to survive temperature extremes, such as the severe cold of the high country of New Zealand's South Island, where it overwinters outdoors.
