Stock Photo: Dionaea muscipula Image ID CFGe460

Picture: Venus Fly Trap (Dionaea muscipula), a carnivorous perennial native to the southeastern United States. It occurs naturally in boggy soil that is low in nutrients and to supplement its mineral supply it traps and digests insects in its modified leaves that fold along the midrib and snap shut when sensitive hairs are touched. Because of its soil and humidity requirements, the Venus Fly Trap is usually treated as a house plant in cultivation.
