Picture: 'Rio Red' Grapefruit (Citrus x paradisi 'Rio Red'), a pinkish-red grapefruit with golden yellow skin that often has an orange blush. 'Rio Red' was developed in Texas from irradiated seeds of 'Ruby Red' and was introduced in 1976. The flesh colour is darker than 'Ruby Red' but not as intense as some of the red grapefruit, such as 'Star Ruby'. The origins of the grapefruit are unclear and it is most likely a hybrid, possibly between Citrus maxima and Citrus sinensis.
