Picture: Himalayan Balsam or Policeman's Helmet (Impatiens glandulifera), a summer-flowering annual or short-lived perennial native to the Himalayan region. The flowers, which are mildly scented, are followed by seedpods that burst open when ripe. Widely naturalised, this species is often considered to be little more than a rather pretty weed.
