Stock Photo: Strawberries Image ID CFGd778

Picture: Although so different in fruit size from the wild plants as to be barely recognisable, strawberries are derived from two semi-evergreen, spreading, rosette-forming perennials: Fragaria chiloensis, found from the western United States to South America, and Fragaria virginiana, a native of North America and Europe. The resultant cross, of which there are many cultivars is known as Fragaria x ananassa.
